Elderberries - Your Winter Friend

It's fast approaching that time of year again...sun not out as long, cold damp days and flu season making it's comeback.  With all the sickness out there this past year, it's time for families to be Pro-active in their health and wellness regime instead of Re-active.  Running to the doctor for that 'magic pill' that usually destroys your beneficial gut bacteria can mostly be eliminated by just taking good care of yourself and adding vitamins, minerals and other gifts of the earth to your arsenol.

One of the key items in our natural defense cabinet, is elderberry syrup. Elderberry has been used as medicine for thousands of years.  Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician who was known as the “father of medicine," referred to the plant as his “medicine chest."  It was also used by early Egyptians and Greeks.

Some swear by elderberry as a method for preventing sickness, while others — docs included — say it’s their first line of defense when they feel something coming on. “Elderberry is one of my go-to favorites this time of year,” says Myles Spar, M.D., chief medical officer of Vault Health. “Its anti-inflammatory properties have been shown to reduce flu-like symptoms and to reduce the duration of the flu by up to 50 percent.”

Beneficial components in Elderberries

Elderberries contain organic pigments, tannin, amino acids, carotenoids, flavonoids, sugar, rutin, viburnic acid, vitaman A and B and a large amount of vitamin C. (Elderberries contain from 6 to 35 mg of vitamin C per 100 grams, that is, up to 60% of your daily recommended intake). They are also mildly laxative, a diuretic, and diaphoretic. Flavonoids, including quercetin, are believed to account for the therapeutic actions of the elderberry flowers and berries. According to test tube studies these flavonoids include anthocyanins that are powerful antioxidants and protect cells against damage. By providing antioxidant protection, Elderberry aids in protecting cellular health from free radical damage and airborne elements.

Effects on Colds and Flu

Doctors that have broken through and realized how much natural help there is out there recommend taking elderberry sryup within the first 48 hours of contacting a cold or flu to nip it in the bud.  Consistency is key when using this and doses should be taken 4 times daily.   Elderberries have also proven to be effective in using BEFORE an illness happens as the study in a 2016 article Nutrients shows.  Travelers using this herb from 10 days before travel until four to five days after arrival overseas experienced, on average, a two-day shorter duration of their colds as well as a noticeable reduction in cold symptoms.

A study published in 2019 through Complementary Therapies in Medicine determined that the berries, due to their antioxidant components, have positive effects against upper respiratory symptoms. These findings present an alternative to antibiotic misuse for upper respiratory symptoms due to viral infections, and a potentially safer alternative to prescription drugs for routine cases of the common cold and influenza.

Drug Interactions

Because of its powerful effects on health, elderberry could potentially interact with several medications. If you currently take any of the following medications, you should talk to your health care provider before using an elderberry supplement or any other elder plant products: Diabetes medications Diuretics (water pills) Chemotherapy Immunosuppressants, including corticosteroids (prednisone), and medications used to treat autoimmune diseases Laxatives Theophylline (TheoDur).

If you have an autoimmune disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis, ask your doctor before taking elderberry because it may stimulate the immune system. If you have any other ongoing health concerns, talk with your health care provider before taking it as well. People with organ transplants should not take elderberry.

You can find our herbal DYI kit here.  All you will need is distilled water, raw honey and glass jars to make this yourself.

Natural Deodorants! Are they Worth it?

Should you really be using a all natural deodorant? - ⭐️⭐️YES! ⭐️⭐️

A million times yes, girlfriend! I feel so boldly about this that I want you to walk into your bathroom right now the throw the other stuff we've been sold on.

Here is why: - One study in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease found that use of aluminum-based antiperspirants increased the risk of developing Alzheimer's later in life by 60 percent. 😱🤬

Add to that a 2009 study from the University of Reading, U.K., that found a correlation between "the increase in cancers of the outside upper quadrant of the breast with the increase in the use of chemical cosmetics, including antiperspirant"

Antiperspirants are aluminium based and use a gel-like substance to block your sweat ducts, preventing or at least reducing the amount of sweat your body produces. Imagine shaving your pits, opening up those pores, then slathering on a product with aluminum. 🥀

Could this be why they find more cancer in the upper quadrant of the breast tissue? - I don't know...But I sure am not going to take the chance when there are other clean products on the market that can help.

Let's make this clear, there is no problem with sweating!! It's a healthy process of cooling the body down. Like your bodies air conditioning. Don't be fooled into thinking sweat is bad.

What we don't want is the "stink."

Look, no one wants to be stinky.

Deodorants work by eradicating the odor causing bacteria. When it kills the bacteria, your sweat has nothing to interact with and no odor is produced. But by using a natural deodorant, you not only stop the stink but also help your skin naturally keep good bacteria to mange odor and manage the skins ph.

- It is 100% worth the switch!

The statistics of hypertension in the United States is dreadful picture of something going on deep inside much of our population.

Having high blood pressure puts you at risk for heart disease and stroke, which are leading causes of death in the United States.

According to the CDC, these are statistics of people in the United States for adults over 20 years old.

  • About 75 million American adults (32%) have high blood pressure—that’s 1 in every 3 adults.
  • About 1 in 3 American adults has prehypertension—blood pressure numbers that are higher than normal—but not yet in the high blood pressure range.
  • Only about half (54%) of people with high blood pressure have their condition under control.
  • High blood pressure was a primary or contributing cause of death for more than 410,000 Americans in 2014—that’s more than 1,100 deaths each day.
  • High blood pressure costs the nation $48.6 billion each year. This total includes the cost of health care services, medications to treat high blood pressure, and missed days of work.*

Medications...and the problems they bring

Most medications that are given to the masses never address the 'root' issues - they simply address the 'fruit' which masks the symptoms and

keeps people on medications daily for a lifetime.  While the medicines are masking the symptoms, the root of the issue continues to bloom

since it's never addressed.  Some of the side affects of blood pressure medicines are:

  • unexplained muscle pain,
  • tenderness, or weakness;
  • confusion,
  • memory problems;
  • fever,
  • unusual tiredness,
  • and dark colored urine;
  • swelling,
  • weight gain,
  • urinating less than usual or not at all;
  • increased thirst,
  • increased urination,
  • hunger,
  • dry mouth,
  • fruity breath odor,
  • drowsiness,
  • dry skin,
  • blurred vision,
  • weight loss;
  • nausea,
  • upper stomach pain,
  • itching,
  • loss of appetite,
  • dark urine,
  • clay-colored stools,

Just this month, Valsartan was recalled by the FDA, a week after 22 other countries recalled it because it poses a potential cancer risk.

“The recall is due to the presence of the impurity, N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), which was found in the recalled products, according to

an FDA statement. NDMA is an organic chemical that is in a family of potent carcinogens. It has been used to make liquid rocket fuel,

softeners and lubricants, among other products. It can also be unintentionally produced through certain chemical reactions and is a byproduct

from some pesticide manufacturing, the making of rubber tires or fish processing. Animal studies have shown that NDMA can be toxic and

cause tumors in the liver, kidney and respiratory tract. It can also be potentially harmful to humans in certain quantities. Exposure to high

levels can cause liver damage and is a probable human carcinogen, according to the US Department of Health and Human Services.” Some

levels of the impurity may have been in the valsartan-containing products for as long as four years.

Common blood pressure medications have also been shown to increase risk of stroke, edema, headaches, nightmares, depression, etc. This is

really unfortunate because high blood pressure is actually quite simple to address naturally.

Refined sugar, not salt is a huge culprit

Salt has been deemed the major culprit to high blood pressure but conventional medicine has it wrong...SUGAR is the real menace that

messes with blood pressure (2).  Before refrigerated foods came along, most foods were fermented or salted.  It was a natural way to

preserve foods.  As this age passed, salt decreased in our diets but SUGAR has sky-rocketed.  Sugar has many negative side effects such as:

  • Refined sugars cause inflammation in the blood vessels
  • Refined carbohydrates increase water in the blood and in order to maintain the proper sodium balance, the body will retain water in the blood vessels
  • The acidity of things high in sugar, such as soda, require the body to pull calcium and magnesium out of the body in order to balance the acidity.  This causes a loss of essential minerals needed for healthy blood pressure.

Magnesium is a missing link in blood pressure health

Many studies reveal that magnesium supplementation is having a HUGE impact on general health.  Our bodies require magnesium for

energy production, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, calcium homeostasis, and heart rhythm normalization.  Blood pressure

is one of the areas that is significantly helped by dosing with proper types of magnesium.  Some of the factors in our daily lives that deplete

this necessary mineral for health are:

.  Most diets are sorely lacking 'foods' that contain and restore magnesium into the body.  Diets rich in nuts, seaweed, avocados, black beans and dark chocolate :)  help to give back to our bodies through nutrition.

. Most people have lifestyles that contribute to stress and consume refined sugars, caffine and alcohol which delplete magnesium levels.  Many prescription meds (PPI's for instance) also deplete magnesium (3).  Check out magnesium effects if you are on medications.

.  Most people are using inferior forms of magnesium which results in not getting the benefits you are seeking.  Cheap forms of magnesium like magnesium citrate and oxide are about 10% absorbable.  While they are really inexpensive, they are a waste of your hard earned money.  Magnesium Citrate (Natural Calm) used long term can lower your ceruloplasmin levels, which helps to regulate iron and copper in your body. You want healthy levels of ceruloplasmin to avoid unbound iron and/or copper issues. Some healthcare professionals claim this is the cause of most diseases and disorders in the body.

Topical Magnesium

Topical magnesium bypasses the gut which eliminates the diarrhea affect that most oral magnesium can cause.  It goes to work quickly and

effectively distributing this necessary mineral throughout our bodies.  Easy to apply and fast acting, this type of application is quickly gaining

support of consumers and the medical community.

The answer to blood pressure issues can be as easy as direct application of Magnesium Chloride to your skin!  Our Transdermal Cream

contains Magnesium Chloride from the Dead Sea which also contains extra minerals your body needs.  This solution is easy and worth trying

for anyone that suffers from hypertension.

Why we chose DoTerra for our family

Our family has always been naturally minded. Heirloom gardens, goat milk, homemade cheeses and dried veges. Being raised by a German mom, our family didn't use doctors much so our immune systems are really strong and health abounds here. At 64, I am grateful that God has blessed our family with good health. Essential Oils, herbs and vitamins have always been part of our health and wellness regime and as this road has been traveled we've learned new and wonderful things along the way. Mainly, not all products that are called 'organic - pure - therapeutic - the BEST' are really what they say they are. Our goal has always been to bring our customers (other family) what WE personally use in our home.

In the winter of 2017, both Dennis and I came down with bronchitis....and it never seemed to end. It was our busiest time of the year and we couldn't get any relief no matter what remedy we used. I was diffusing, rolling oils, ingesting herbs and NOTHING was touching it. We finally went to the doctor and $700 later we had meds. Guess what? THEY DID NOTHING FOR US! In fact, the antibiotics made me so sick I stopped taking them on day 2! Burned up our hard earned cash!

Enter a show we were doing in Bossier City, Louisiana, a very nice woman asked me if I was struggling with breathing (LIKE YES!!!) She provided me a sample of DoTerra's BREATHE and sold me a hand held diffuser. I had that going in my face throughout that show and in TWO days time, I was well! Yes, kicked the bronchitis right out of me. Dennis followed with healing and we were on board with these oils.

Our daughter in Little Rock was sick for two months during the same season. She had tried oils from two different reputable companies and NOTHING was making her feel better. I went, with oils in tow, and made roller balls for her that we used hourly and I also made her inhale oils from a cup. Same results - in THREE days she was done with her issues and on board! Her dilemma now was - what do I do with all these other oils I just bought in December!

Our youngest has used these oils on her baby and gotten through teething with minimal discomfort. Her husband, who gets sick EVERY flu season didn't even have a drippy nose this year. We stand amazed at what these 'Gifts from the Earth' (the meaning of DoTerra) have done for our family.

Our skin is our largest organ, so whatever we put on it is absorbed into our bodies. Goat milk soap is a natural product packed full of great things that are good for you, your skin, AND your BEARD. No weird chemicals or questionable ingredients being absorbed through your mug when using soaps made with goat's milk. Goat's milk soap will not only get your skin clean, it doubles as one of the BEST BEARD SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONERS available. It also helps with flaking and itching.

Here are seven reasons why it's awesome:

1. Goat's milk soap won't dry out your skin or your beard. The cream found in the milk is a great moisturizer. Some soaps contain chemical moisturizers while goat's milk soaps contains alpha hydroxy acids which help break down dead skins cells. Removing the dead skin cells means new smoother, more youthful cells.

2. The pH of goat's milk is almost the same as the pH level of your skin. This is great for a lot of reasons. It allows nutrients in but keeps bacteria out. It prevents dryness. If other soaps dry out your skin because the pH is out of whack, your oil glands will overreact. Overactive oil glands means oily potentially blemished skin - not good.

3. It's packed with great vitamins like D, C, B1, B6, B12, E, and one of the most important for the skin, vitamin A. Vitamin A has been shown to reduce lines and wrinkles, control acne and smooth roughness.

4. Goat's milk has naturally occurring glycerin. Soaps are made by combining fats (and goat's milk is full of good fats) with a strongly alkaline solution. A byproduct of that process is glycerin. It's normally removed from commercial soap making processes, but with goat's milk soaps it's left in for it's awesome moisturizing properties.

5. In hair care, goat milk replenishes the moisture in every strand by penetrating the hair shaft. It nourishes the scalp which adds life, luster and body to the hair.

6. Goat's milk soap has been shown to help treat acne, psoriasis and eczema and it's more hypoallergenic than other soaps, which means it's good for those with sensitive skin.

7.  And finally, Goat Milk Soap nourishes every skin cell.  It contains selenium, an anti oxidant that fights free radicals which seek to destroy living cells.  It helps protect against sun exposure.  It truly brings LIFE to your largest organ - your first defense against disease.

Magnesium - The Heart Mineral

Magnesium - the Heart mineral

Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in this country. Studies have shown that the lower your intake of magnesium, the higher risk you are to sucumming to cardiovascular disease. Magnesium supplementation can help with a variety of heart related issues: arrythmias, hypertension, atherosclerosis and endothelial disfunction. Even a small change in magnesium intake can make a huge difference in how the heart, blood vessels, blood cells, intestinal track and other tissue functions. This is because magnesium is essential for tissues that have electrical or mechanical activity such as blood vessels, heart muscle and nerves. Having heart issues?

We have formulated a transdermal magnesium cream which includes the heart enzyme CoQ10.  Why transdermal cream?  Because it is utilized by your body quickly and doesn't break down with stomach acids giving you the full impact of the magnesium.

We believe that if magnesium issues are addressed, there is no need to accept stroke or heart disease as just 'getting old'. We encourage each of you to research this truth for yourself and live a long, full and well life.

Are you tired of being let down by commercial soaps which promise clear, fresh skin with their added vitamins and benefits? Your search ends here because using the delicious smelling natural goat milk soap isn't just relaxing but naturally good for your skin also. That's right! One reason your skin looks smooth and fresh after using natural goat milk soaps is goat milk contains alpha hydroxy acids which break down dead skin cells and leave new ones. Literally, the soap gently removes the dry skin and leaves a brand new layer.

Goat milk also naturally contains vitamins B6/B12, C, D, E and A!  Vitamin A is necessary to repair skin damage and excellent for those suffering from Acne breakouts.  Vitamins A and E are also natural antioxidents which neutrelize free radicals stopping many skin issues before they start.   All this comes INCLUDED in our soaps - naturally!

The content of natural goat milk soaps aid in reducing skin inflammation which makes skin appear less blotchy, red, and puffy. Nothing compares to the rich moisture, natural high fat content of natural goat milk soaps to keep your skin soft, moist and exfoliated.

Charcoal for Whitening Teeth

Since 2005 we have been formulating Oral Care Products that naturally fight Dental Issues and allow teeth to remineralize.  We are thrilled to add to our line two products that not only clean, but brighten your teeth naturally.

Both of these products, the Charcoal Chips and the Charcoal Paste, contain Ultra fine food grade Activated Charcoal made from 100% Virgin Coconut Shell, Calcium Bendonite Clay, Organic Aloe Vera (for gum health), Pink Himalayian Salt (for Minerals), GMO FREE Xylitol (Bacteria fighter) and White Oak Bark (for gum health).

Because Activated Charcoal is alkiline, it works to remove the acidic plaque from the teeth making it the ultimate tooth purifier. Through the drawing of toxins, Activated Charcoal is helpful in changing the PH and health of your mouth making it an effective aid in preventing cavities and killing the bad bacteria that results in tooth decay and gingivitis.  The Calcium Bendonite Clay contains minerals that teeth need every day.

Like all of our Oral Care products, our Activated Charcoal products contain NO Glycerin which prevents minerals from getting to your teeth thus hindering the re-mineralization process that comes through saliva.
